Common Land explores the creation stories behind protected land. Each season of the show takes a deep dive into the history, science and politics behind the creation of one particular patch of protected common land.
Season Two:
The Appalachian National Scenic Trail
The longest hiking-only footpath in the world, the Appalachian Trail stretches 2,200 miles from Georgia to Maine. But the trail is more than a footpath - it’s a linear National Park representing a narrow corridor of protected land.
Season One:
The Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area
Named for the famed falconer who made it his life’s work to protect this unique stretch of the Snake River Canyon. The area is home to the highest breeding densities of birds of prey anywhere in North America.
